Organized Support Groups: A Place to Vent (and Ventilate)
If you are a woman currently going through menopause, you know just how difficult it can be. The awkward, uncomfortable, and even embarrassing symptoms you're experiencing have no doubt turned your life upside down-and that's just the physical side of things. Menopause can also cause an exorbitant amount of mental stress, which is why it's important for you reach out to the people around you.
Beyond Your Immediate Family
While your immediate family is often the best resource for dealing with most of life's curve balls, they often do not make for the best menopause support group. Although it's important to reach out and communicate with your immediate family, the best support usually comes from other women who have had or are experiencing it themselves. After all, you can't expect non-menopausal women, or men, or teenage daughters to truly understand the intensity of a hot flash or the discomfort of chronic vaginal dryness.
Benefits of Support Groups
You might find the support you need while going through menopause from your family and friends, but if not, try seeking a community of women at the local hospital, women's center, or online support group. If your local hospital doesn't have such a group, ask if they would start one, and reach out to other women in your community who may be interested. Ask if one of the gynecologists affiliated with the hospital can lead the group or give a series of lectures on menopause.
One such doctor, Robyn Jacobs, MD, a board-certified OB/GYN in Lebanon, NH, has often presented to groups of women on issues concerning menopause. Learning more about its symptoms, she says, can offer you "validation that you're not going insane." In a group setting, she adds, you can share ideas that have worked for other women or just commiserate with someone and laugh about it. "A lot can be gained by sharing with people who are going through the same thing you are."
In one series of lectures she invited experts in exercise, nutrition, and sexuality to talk to the class as part of the overall focus on lifestyle management. Menopause, says Dr. Jacobs, who specializes in a field known as functional medicine, presents "an opportunity for people to take control of their lives."
What to Expect
Many women avoid talking openly about their menopause for fear of embarrassment. In an organized support group, you'll find women who are going through many of the same things you are. From a constellation of symptoms such as hot flashes to mood swings, women in these groups have been through it or are going through it and can help you feel less embarrassed about this natural occurrence. You'll find that it can be extremely comforting to have non-judgmental people share in your experiences. The women in these groups can also point you to ideas or methods they found to be successful in treating their menopausal symptoms.
Online Groups
While personal interaction with other menopausal women has proven to be very therapeutic for many women, some wish to remain anonymous. For these women, there are online support groups. These groups are great for those who are very busy because the information there is available at any hour. Many of these online support groups also feature chat rooms in which you can talk anonymously with other women who are going through the same things you are. A simple Internet search will garner a host of results for online menopause support groups.
Medical Treatment
While menopause support groups have their place, they cannot replace the care and advice of a doctor. You may get some great advice from women on certain medical procedures or prescription drugs, but in the end, only a doctor can tell you if any drug or medical procedure is right for you and your specific situation. Before embarking on any treatment regime, always first consult a physician, and never accept a sample of a prescription product from someone else's prescription.

Choosing the Best Side Support Bra
Lingerie should be considered as the most important section of a woman's wardrobe. It is very important that you wear the right undergarment. Without that even the best of clothes and make up cannot complete your look. Do your breasts bulge out of the bra? Does it not provide proper support? Do you suffer from back pain? Are you left with red marks on your shoulder from your bra straps? Do the straps slip from your shoulder? If the answer to any of the above questions is a 'yes', it is high time that you start shopping for new bras. A side support bra is ideal if you require extra support on the sides.
Before you purchase a new bra, the first thing that you should do is get the correct measurement. You should take the measuring tape and measure just below the bust-line. Let loose while getting measured. Add 3 if the result is an odd number to know the band size. Add 4 if the result is an even number. This is how you find out the accurate band size for your new bra. Now it is time to find out the correct cup size. Measure your breasts around the fullest part. Now minus that number from the band size you previously measured. 1" difference means you need an 'A' cup. 2" difference means you need a 'B' cup and so on.
You should choose the bra style next. There are so many types available in the market starting from sports bra to strap-less bra. You should choose the bra depending on the size and shape of your breasts. Women with small breasts should go for padded bras. The ones whose breasts are on the heavier side should stay away from padded and look for support bras. Go for plain bra styles sans lace if you want them to appear smaller.
A side support bra comes with side panels that are large. It prevents your breasts from bulging to the sides which often blocks arm's movement. These bras also prevent your breasts from bulging out from the top of the bra. It pushes the breasts inwards so that you get a well-defined cleavage. Your breasts appear perkier and more youthful. You can choose between the under wired and non-under wired variety. Side support bra comes in different designs. It varies from brand to brand. The price also varies accordingly.
A particular kind of bra cannot be appropriate for every woman. Also the type of clothes you would be wearing will contribute to your bra choices. You should look carefully and go through a lot of options. You usually have to go through a lot of trial and error before you come across the perfect bra for you. You can look online for more side support bra choices. You can choose the color, design, fabric and style of bra you are looking for. But do not forget to measure your breasts at least once a year to see if you need a refitting or change of bra.

Posture Support Bra - A Buyer's Guide
All women should always pay the maximum attention when buying the right kind of undergarments. This is especially true in case of bras. You just cannot compromise with it. Wearing the wrong bra can lead to different kinds of health ailments and not to forget, make you look awkward. Unfortunately, even then almost 85% women wear the wrong kinds of bra. The reason for this is lack of awareness on how to shop for the right bras. They must always shop keeping in mind things such and the size and shape of the breasts.
Women with heavier breasts often complain of back and shoulder pain. Small breasted women complain that they cannot make their breasts appear fuller. Women with different types of breasts have different needs. The first job is to identify the style that is appropriate. Women often have to go through a lot of trial and error before they can find the right bra style for themselves. If you do not have access to an expert, the internet can always prove to be handy in giving you essential tips.
Always consider the extent of support the bra is providing. A bra that does not provide enough support also restricts breathing. Wearing a bad bra can also lead to bad posture and back trouble. A posture support bra can help in correcting damage caused by wearing bad bras for years. They are designed in a manner to prevent you from slouching or slumping. They have comfortable straps and the bands and cups are durable. A good posture support bra will ensure that the breasts are supported by the bra and not by your shoulders, back or neck; which is usually the case when you wear wrong bras.
These bras mainly come in three varieties. You have the criss-cross design which is quite common. This one provides an additional support to your posture. Wire free criss-cross posture support bra is quite popular among women who wear these bras. A lot of women also prefer the front closure variety of these bras. If you have never worn a posture support bra before, go for the one that resembles a normal bra. It is good to start with that and adjust before you can go with the ones that provide maximum support.
The second variety is the one that is especially designed for active women. These bras have elastic and the fabric is more breathable. Active women who are always on the go will find these support bras extremely comfortable. These bras also cover more body area as compared to a regular bra.
The third variety is the long-line posture support bra. They also cover the area of your torso and abdomen. You get maximum support on your posture. This variety is mostly preferred by full-figured women. However, they are not as popular as they used to be.
Browse online to look for more varieties and choose your bra in accordance to your needs. The right bra will help you cope with the stress of day-to-day life and prevent various health problems.
